Little Axe will play host to the No. 1 ranked Washington Warriors tonight (Thursday) in a district clash on the gridiron.

The Indians run a form of the spread on offense and operate out of a 4-3 on the defensive side of the ball.

Washington ran its current winning streak to 35 with a 64-7 homecoming victory over the Marietta Indians last Friday night at Reed Field.

Warriors head coach Brad Beller credited his offensive line for the one-sided victory.

“They continue to get better and better and better each week,” Beller said of Jaxon Byrd, Canyon Alcorta, Sam Cantrell, Kingston Stringer and Hunter Sanders.

“They had no mental busts outside of the opening drive when they showed us some things we hadn’t seen on film,” Beller said. “Once we got over those two mental mistakes they played fine.”

The big eaters up front paved the way for eight different running backs to carry the mail for the Warriors, who rushed for 341 yards and four touchdowns as a team.

Hudson Howard gained 138 yards on just eight carries and scored on runs of 38 and 18 yards.

Creed Barrett was 5-6 passing for 182 yards and tossed touchdown passes to Jax Mitchell for 11 yards, 71 yards to Kash Guthmueller and 43 yards to Kade Babcock.

Mason Singletary returned a kick 83 yards for a first quarter score and ran in a touchdown carry from 12 yards out in the second period.

Kaden McCarthy had a one yard scoring plunge and Kinser Scott closed out the scoring with a 16 yard run followed by a two point PAT run.

Kale Brakefield recovered a fumble to go with his four tackles. Blake Heiliger stepped in front of an errant Marietta pass for an interception to go with his four tackles.

“Ricky had been rotating,” Beller said. “He made the most of his starting debut.”

Marietta finished the night with 119 total yards but 60 of that came on one play.

“I thought defensively, aside from one play, our ones, twos and threes all played well. Our linebackers Rick Ramirez, Jordan Kilmer and Kale Brakefield were all over the field.”

Warrior notes:

Washington Head Coach Brad Beller nominated Creed Barrett as the Offensive Player of the Week. Barrett completed five of six passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns.

Nominated as the Offensive Lineman of the Week was Canyon Alcorta. He graded out at 82 percent against Marietta.

Getting the nod as the Defensive Player of the Week was Blake Heiliger who had four tackles and an interception against the Indians.

Ricky Ramirez was nominated as the Defensive Lineman of the Week. He had four solo tackles with two of them for losses.
