Purcell Sophomore Jayden Polk is up to his old tricks, breaking PHS track records.

In 1988 Randy Minyard set a cross country 5K standard of 16:25 that held up until Kyle Ginn’s 16:19 broke it in 2020.

Polk smashed Ginn’s mark with a new course record at Lexington last Thursday with a 15:32 effort.

Polk also set the new course record at Marlow in August when he knocked 12 seconds off the previous mark.

This is the third time Polk has set a new standard for Purcell Athletics, with the first school record broken back in April, beating a 1600 m track standard that was set 42 years ago by Randy McDaniel in 1982.

“The second came just a week later when he broke his own record that had stood for just one week.

The Dragons won the Lexington Cross Country meet, led by  Polk. Erick Suarez finished fourth followed by Tripp Eck in ninth and Cameron Coulter at 13th.

Middle School girls medal winners included 10th Ali Brady

15th Belen Resendiz.

Middle School boys medal winners included 4th Isai Barraza, 15th Dylan Caralampio and 18th David Fraire.
