Defeat Perry in Super Regional

The Washington Warriors defeated Perry 20-0 and 12-2 in the Super Regional to earn a berth to the State tournament.

It marks the 29th consecutive trip for Warrior softball to make the State tournament. It’s a streak that goes back to 1999.

“With us having been there in the tournament before it helps,” said Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin. “I’ve been preaching to the girls to enjoy it and not take it for granted.”

The Warriors are scheduled to open with Alva today (Thursday) at 4 p.m. at FireLake Ballfield in Shawnee.

Lampkin said they are a talented team.

“They’ve got a really good arm and they’ve been very competitive the last few years,” he said. “They’re super athletic and (coach Megan Stratton) does a really good job coaching them up. They will bring a lot of energy.”

The Warriors have held a couple practices on the football field to get a feel for the artificial turf on the fields at FireLake.

“We wanted to get used to playing on the turf,” Lampkin said.

The Warriors put up an incredible 32 run on the Maroons in two games during the Super Regional tournament.

“We obviously hit it really well,” Lampkin said. “They are a quality team and still have some girls off the team that won it. They’ve been there and they know what they’re doing.”

Payton Blackburn got the start in the 20-0 win. She struck out five batters while walking none.

The Warrior defense did not commit an error behind her.

On the offensive side, Washington got home runs from Ally Dennis, Ava Salcedo, Kinzlee Pogue and Raelee Adkins.

Adkins had eight RBIs in the game.

Dennis got the start in the circle in the second game against Perry.

She struck out seven batters and allowed two walks.

Daphne Palumbo was 3-4 with an RBI.

Kinley Taylor was 2-4 with two doubles.

Hadley Beard and Jaylee Gray both hit doubles as well.

“It’s been a great year and I’m super proud of their work,” Lampkin said.

Washington is 36-1 this season.
