A McClain County deputy recognized as Deputy of the Year is now facing an uncertain diagnosis as worsening neurological symptoms leave him unable to safely perform his normal duties.
According to a GoFundMe, 42-year-old Justin Johnston has experienced tremors, increasing weakness, blurred vision and balance problems.
His wife, Ashley Johnston, says testing has confirmed a neurological disorder, but doctors are still working to determine a definitive diagnosis.
With his paid sick leave exhausted, Ashley launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical care, transportation to appointments and essential household bills while the couple works to keep life stable for their children.
“He now has to go without a paycheck for 30 days before he can qualify for short-term disability.
If approved it will only cover 60 percent of his income.
How long this situation will last is unknown.
“When we will have answers, or what his ability to work will look like moving forward will help solve the equation.
“We are doing everything we can to keep life as stable as possible for our children while making sure Justin gets the care and testing he needs,” the GoFundMe reads.
