Regional tournament victories over Marlow and Harrah gave Purcell the Regional Championship. The Dragons are to host the Super Regional today (Thursday) and if necessary on Friday with Cache.

Those two teams met in Cache September 12 with Purcell prevailing 2-0 in 11 innings. Ella Resendiz and Kadyielynne Fisher had a real pitcher’s dual with Resendiz striking out 13 Bulldog hitters in that meeting.

Game times for Thursday are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.. The if necessary game would be played starting at noon on Friday.

It’s a best two out of three series with the winner punching their ticket to the State Tournament.

The Dragons breezed through the regional run-ruling Harrah on Wednesday, 11-0 with Resendiz throwing a no hitter.

Purcell turned around the next day and pinned a14-2 run-rule victory on Marlow. Ava Sparks started the game in the circle and was relieved in the fourth by Resendiz who closed out the victory.

Between the two games, Purcell had 25 hits, including six doubles, two triples and two home runs, both from Resendiz.

“Aside from the hits, we had really good at-bats totaling 11 walks in both games. We had a team batting average of .490,” Jones said.

Resendiz led the hitting going 5-6. Right on her heels was Mack McKay who went 5-7.

KK Vazquez finished with four hits while Hadleigh Harp and Maica Martinez both had three hits.

“Our defense was solid only having one error in both games,” the coach said. “Between both games, Ava pitched 3.1 innings and had 4 strikeouts. Ella pitched 6.2 innings and had 13 strikeouts,” Jones said.

The two hurlers did not issue a single walk in the two games.
