Purcell’s fast-pitch softball squad took a 17-11 record into this week’s Regional tournament at Blanchard Tuesday.
The Dragons were scheduled to play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Blanchard. Also in the tournament was Sulphur.
Head coach Jason Tompkins said if they win Tuesday they would play again Wednesday at 12 and 2 p.m. The 2 p.m. contest would be the if necessary contest to determine who would advance to the Super Regional.
Last week Purcell knocked off Perkins 9-3 and Bethel 4-3 in extra innings.
Freshman Taryn Knowles was stellar in the pitching circle striking out 17 Wildcats. She scattered five hits over eight innings and walked three.
Kiki Waterman’s dinger to left field knotted the score at 3-all. Her three RBIs led the Dragon offense.
Jaycee Holman and Kyndall Williams both had a pair of hits in the contest.
Kyleigh Reinhold, scoring on a passed ball, was the difference in the game.
