If shopping, eating delicious food and listening to fabulous music is in your wheelhouse, then downtown Purcell is where you need to be on Saturday.

That’s when the first Heart of Oklahoma Music Festival will unfold on stage just outside of McClain Bank at Second and Main streets.

Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Elisabeth Baker reports food trucks and extra vendors will be brought in as well to extend the shopping experience beyond the already awesome shops along Main Street.

The first band starts its gig at 11 a.m. The event will last all day and into the night. Among those on the play list is Purcell’s own Nashville recording artist Parker Millsap.

The 2011 Purcell High School graduate has released six studio albums and is in high demand.

Those albums include Palisade, Parker Millsap (self titled), The Very Last Day, Other Arrangements, Be Here Instead and Wilderness Within You.

Also set to perform are local Oklahoma musical artists Red Grass String Band, The Bottom of the Barrel, Gary Gibson and Etowah Road.

Admission is free thanks to sponsors Purcell Tourism Committee, OEC Fiber, McClain Bank and UTS Supply.

“I’m eagerly anticipating the Heart of Oklahoma Music Festival,” said City Manager Sam Demel. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the community to gather and enjoy an afternoon of fun, food, vendors and fantastic music. It will be a great way to meet new people and make new friends.”

Those attending should bring their lawn chairs, festival organizers report.

“I want people to come downtown so we can showcase our stores,” event coordinator Serena Melton said. “We want to get people in our stores and familiarize them with Purcell. This is an opportunity to show off our redesign and allow people to get to know our stores.”

The city’s Human Resources supervisor Brandi Idlett said, “This is a tremendous opportunity for the City of Purcell and our downtown vendors. This provides us a chance to showcase our wonderful downtown.”

“It should be a really fun event and something for the whole family,” Baker concluded.
