The Wayne School District is adding another security arrow to its quiver.

“Through the past few years, we have been able to do various security upgrades on our campus. They include, but are not limited to, new doors on all buildings with secure vestibules built at elementary and middle school, new windows in elementary and middle school and access control on entry doors that can be locked down remotely,” superintendent Dr. Toby Ringwald said.

There are also new locks on all classroom doors, a new camera system with 50 new cameras, a buzzer system with camera on all main entry doors and lighting across campus on outer buildings for better nighttime visibility.

Now the school is getting a School Resource Officer (SRO) in McClain County Sheriff Deputy Brian Young.

Young has 12 years experience as an SRO serving in that capacity at Eureka Springs, AR where he also served as Chief of Police, Sheriff Landy Offolter said.

He worked three years with the FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force, where he collected information on outlaw motorcycle gangs. He then transferred to criminal investigations in 2015 and the last five years of his service there he served as Chief of Police.

Young, an Oklahoma native, grew up attending Moore Public schools before transferring as a senior to Eureka Springs High School, where he graduated in 1989.

“We are excited to welcome Officer Young to our campus,” Ringwald said. “We feel this is another piece of the puzzle as it relates to security.

“He will be on our campus every day starting October 1, and will be at many of our evening events. We appreciate the partnership with Sheriff Offolter and his diligence in supplying us with an officer,” Ringwald concluded.

Young looks forward to working with the community and children of the district of Wayne. He believes it is important to build trust with children and be a supportive role in their lives.
