On Monday night the Wayne Lady Bulldogs added a 13-3 win over Bray-Doyle to their season record.

Freshman Maddie Moreno shined in the circle and at the plate. She went 3-3 with a triple and two singles and three RBIs.

She also pitched four innings, striking out three and allowing three runs on five hits.

Wayne collected 11 hits in the win. Audra Watts also had three while Cylie Jones had two. Taelyn Ringwald, Alyssa Hobson and Addison Clagg had one hit apiece.

“We ran the bases well against Bray-Doyle. We’ve struggled defensively this season, but I think we’re starting piece it together,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to travel to Rush Springs on Tuesday. They will be in Allen on Thursday and at Elmore City on Monday.

“Those teams will play good ball. We’ll have to compete to stay in the game and give ourselves a chance,” Herrin said.

Last week, Wayne dropped two games – an 11-3 loss at Velma and an extra-innings 7-6 loss at Empire.

Velma-Alma

The Lady Bulldogs had five hits in the loss at Velma last Tuesday. Watts, Jones, Hobson Moreno and Lily Whitaker each had one.

But, errors proved costly once again.

Moreno pitched five and two-thirds innings, striking out six .

Empire

In their third meeting with Empire, Wayne took the other Bulldogs to extra innings and eventually fell 7-6.

Wayne outhit Empire 13-9, led by Addison Keeler’s three hits. Ringwald, Jones, Hobson and Moreno each had two while Whitaker and Alana Digby had one hit apiece.

Moreno had her first ever home run in the fourth inning to score two runs and help Wayne take the lead.

Hobson scored on a dropped third strike in the seventh inning to tie the score at 6-6 and send the game to extra innings.

Empire scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning on a sacrifice fly.

Clagg started the game in the circle. She lasted two-thirds of an inning and struck out one batter.

Moreno pitched the rest of the game and racked up 12 strikeouts.
