McClain County Commissioners met in a joint meeting August 14 with the Garvin County Commissioners to discuss the feasibility of a regional detention center. McClain County’s jail has beds for 50 incarcerates, which forces the sheriff to contract with other facilities to house detainees beyond that number. McClain County voters, led by Newcastle and Blanchard voters, turned down a proposal in 2019 to build a new jail.
