When the dust settles Friday night at Floyd West Field it will most likely be the team that plays the best on special teams and has the least amount of turnovers that walks away victorious.
That’s what usually happens when Lexington and Wayne lock horns in the Battle of the Bulldogs.
No one knows that better than veteran head coach Keith Bolles at Lexington, who’s club comes in 1-0 after an off-week last week.
“Our special teams let us down a little bit against Elmore City,” Bolles confirmed. “We’ve got to get better at that.
“We’ve got to get that fixed and not turn the ball over,” he said.
Wayne comes into the contest 1-1 with a blowout victory over Crooked Oak on their resume.
“They run a 3-3 stack on defense and has a multitude of sets on offense,” Bolles reports of the Bulldogs, coached by longtime Wayne Head Coach Brandon Sharp.
“They line up in a one back set, a two back set and a three back set,” Bolles confirmed.
“Wayne has a bruising running back in Jeremiah Peterson and a good quarterback in Eli Stottlemyre who throws pretty well. They also have a big, tall receiver in Max McGlory who runs good routes.
“They put up 50 on Crooked Oak so they’ve got some offense there,” the Lexington skipper said.
Bulldog notes:
Friday night is the annual Military Night to honor area veterans for their service to the country.
Veterans should be at the football field by 6:30, Lexington officials confirm.
Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m.
