A couple of lopsided wins helped ease the pain of three consecutive losses by the Wayne High baseball team.
The Bulldogs (8-13) thumped Wewoka 16-6 in three innings and 13-5 in three innings on Monday night.
Langstyn McClendon and Lane Lewis got the pitching wins, and McClendon contributed a double, home run and six stolen bases on the night.
“The guys played well, and it was nice to get back on the winning side of things,” coach Shane Collins told The Register.
Brody Kemp hit his third home run of the season while Sloan Jackson “played well behind the plate” and hit a pair of triples to go with six steals, according to Collins.
“Brody stuck out over the last week,” he said. “Ben Fisher has been playing well, putting the ball in play and using his speed around the bases. He goes and gets fly balls and does a great job for us.
The Bulldogs played four games in five days before that, beating Springer 15-3 on April 6, losing 11-1 to Stratford on April 7, losing 12-1 to Rush Springs at the Jake Leffler Memorial Tournament in Velma on April 9 and losing 11-1 to Lexington the next day.
McClendon got the win against Springer.
Jake Turner started the Lexington game but struggled in the second inning when the Bulldogs scored 10 of their 11 runs. Xander Gavia drove in the lone run for Wayne.
Collins and his team are setting their sights on the postseason. The Bulldogs will face Clayton and Moyers for Districts next week.
