Washington’s Blake Heiliger is on fire from his linebacker spot and he did it again last Friday in Washington’s 54-0 shutout victory over Lexington.

Heiliger, who made a dozen tackles against Marlow the previous week, finished with 10 against the Bulldogs.

“He topped off his best performance of the season against Marlow with 10 against Lexington,” head coach Brad Beller said. “Our linebacker play has been stellar with not only Blake but Jordan Kilmer and Kale Brakefield.

“Even our younger linebackers like Xander Portillo have been good,” Beller continued. “And, Ricky Ramirez got his first start at defensive end and had a good game.”

Dawson Thomas picked off a Bulldog pass last Friday night. He along with Tatum Wilk, Tanner Olson and Kash Guthmueller held Lexington’s passing attack to 44 yards on 21 pass attempts.

The Warriors scored early and often rushing for 186 yards and four touchdowns. They were effective passing throwing for 313 yards and three touchdowns.

“What jumps out at you on the offensive side of the ball is Mason Singletary having two receptions for 173 yards and two touchdowns,” Beller said. “That’s 86.5 yards per reception something you may never see again.”

Creed Barrett rushed for a pair of touchdowns on scampers of three and 56-yards and tossed two scoring strikes to Singletary and one to Nate Roberts.

Singletary had a 97 yard touchdown reception and a 76 yard reception while Roberts’ touchdown grab was good for 37 yards.

Dawson Thomas returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown and Hudson Howard scooted in from five yards out for a six point play. Howard finished the night with 100 yards on 10 carries. Josiah Dickerson closed out the scoring for the Warriors on an eight yard burst.

“Any time you have a back that averages 10 yards per carry your offensive line has done a good job,” the coach said.

Barrett spread the wealth with four different receivers catching passes. Barrett was 7-8 passing for 313 yards.

“We were good and efficient in both the run game and the passing game,” Beller said. “I was pleased with our production in the passing game. Creed did a good job of being efficient.”

In addition to Singletary, Roberts had two catches, Case Alexander had a pair and one each to Kade Babcock and Hudson Howard.

Up next for the No. 1 ranked Warriors is a home game Friday with the Crossings Christian Knights.

Beller said they run a “bear” defense with a 3-1 or 5-1 formation and play man-to-man pass coverage behind it.

“It’s a different type of defense than we’ve seen. We will have to be prepared because it changes up your blocking schemes. All they want to do is disrupt your backfield.”

On offense the Knights run a slot offense even with double slots.

“It’s a lot of spread principals. They are very athletic. The trigger guy is their quarterback. He’s the catalyst to their offense,” Beller confirmed.

Warrior notes:

Washington Head Coach Brad Beller nominated Blake Heiliger as the Defensive Player of the Week. He had a team-high 10 tackles in the Lexington victory.

Mason Singletary got the nod as the Offensive Player of the Week with two pass receptions both for touchdowns and 173 yards for an 86.5 yard per catch average.

The Defensive Lineman of the Week nomination went to Carson Elliott. He had five tackles and a quarterback sack.

There was no nomination for Offensive Lineman of the Week.
