Washington wrapped up the regular season with a 42-0 road shellacking of Little Axe last Friday night.

The No. 1 Warriors, in a 25-game winning streak, tossed their sixth straight shutout victory.

The last time Washington has been scored on was back on September 22 when Frederick put seven points on the board. The Warriors have yielded 38 total points this season.

“On the defensive side we started rotating players on the second possession,” head coach Brad Beller said. “We mixed and matched personnel groupings.”

Beller was pleased with his linebacking corps including Keller Howard, Case Taylor, Case Alexander, Ben Vaughn and Blake Heiliger.

Taylor and Kale Brakefield led the tackling chart with six each. Alexander, Heiliger and Howard had five each.

“It was great to see Ben Vaughn back on the field,” Beller said. “He’s been hurt. All five of them played extremely well. They shut down the option and covered passes well.”

Kade Norman scored half of the team’s total rushing touchdowns on runs of  46 and six yards. On the night he had 13 carries for 132 yards and the two scores.

Quarterback Major Cantrell was 7-9 passing for 188 yards including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Cage Morris.

Dawson Thomas scored on a two-yard plunge and Naithen Spaulding ran in from two yards out.

Max Wilson got the scoring started returning a first quarter punt 67 yards to the barn.

“Our offensive line dominated, especially in the run game,” the coach said.

He was speaking of the play of Baylor Haynes, Canyon Dowden, Jordan Vanya, Tanner Winlock, Easton Berglan and Kingston Stringer.

“They did a great job of controlling the line and giving us running lanes,” he said.

A total of 11 different Warriors carried the ball last Friday night at Little Axe.

Up next for the undefeated Warriors is a first round playoff game at Reed Field with Lexington at 7 p.m.

“Usually in a playoff game you are facing a team that you don’t know much about. But in this case we play Lexington in junior high and the kids know one another from other sports as well.

“Coach (Keith) Bolles does a great job. Their offense is very multiple. They can be in anything from a two-back gun to a spread and even an empty backfield at times. They do a good job of getting the ball to their playmakers in space.”

The 5-5 Bulldogs are also multiple when it comes to defense with a base defense out of a 4-3.

“They want to be disruptive with their front seven,” Beller said. “I feel like it’s their defense that has allowed them to be here in week 11. They are very physical and very disciplined.

Warrior notes:

Washington Head Coach Brad Beller nominated Kade Norman as the Offensive Player of the Week. Norman had 13 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns against Little Axe.

Nominated as the Defensive Player of the Week was Keller Howard with five tackles.

Getting the nod as the Defensive Lineman of the Week was Wyatt Denton with three tackles.

Jordan Vanya was the nominee for Offensive Lineman of the Week with a 90 percent grade against the Indians last week.
