Washington enters the State slow-pitch tournament for the 28th consecutive time on Thursday, a streak that dates back to 1997.

“It’s pretty wild and speaks volumes about the community, program and the kids,” head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “I’m the sixth head coach in that span and it just says a lot about everyone.”

The Warriors open with Purcell Thursday at 11:30 a.m. after the tournament was moved due to weather.

Regional tournament

The Warriors took care of business against Guthrie and Woodward in the Regional tournament.

They defeated Guthrie 6-1 to open the tournament.

“We didn’t play real well against Guthrie and we might have been more relaxed than normal,” Lampkin said. “But we re-focused.”

Washington scored first but never put together big innings offensively.

Ava Salcedo homered and was 1-3 on the day.

Raelee Adkins was 2-3 and scored twice.

Shelbie Caveness was 1-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Abby Byrd was 1-1 with a pair of ribbies.

Woodward

Washington beat Woodward 15-3 in the second game.

Julie Hoehner had a big day at the plate, going 3-3 with a homer, a double and four RBIs.

Salcedo was 1-2 with a homer and three RBIs.

Caveness was 3-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

“I’m super proud of this bunch and a lot of kids are playing who didn’t get to play a ton last year,” Lampkin said “It’s great to see the blossom and take advantage of the opportunities that have been given to them.”

The Warriors shot out of the gate with a five-run first inning.

They followed that with three in the second inning and seven in the third.

Washington is 24-4.
