The Washington slow-pitch softball team defeated four ranked teams, including Class 4A No. 1 Dale, over a five-day stretch.
“We ended the week really well and then obviously had the two really big wins on Monday,” said head coach Tylor Lampkin. “We’re trying to move in the right direction.”
Haworth
They defeated Class 3A No. 19 Haworth 21-0 in the Hall of Fame Festival.
The Warriors pounded the ball and had home runs by Abby Byrd, Ava Salcedo, Julie Hoehner and Reese Schrader.
Schrader was 3-3 with a team-high four RBIs.
Defensively the Warriors played an error-free game.
“We’re slowly hitting the ball better,” Lampkin said. “Even our outs are getting better.”
Stroud
They turned around and beat Class 4A No. 8 Stroud 21-9 in the second game.
Presley Lucas gave the Warriors an offensive explosion with two home runs and four RBIs in the game. She was 3-3.
“It was good to see her come in and do that,” Lampkin said.
Salcedo and Shelbie Caveness also homered twice each. Salcedo had a team-high five RBIs and Caveness had four ribbies.
Schrader and Kelby Beller also homered.
Lampkin said as his team is settling in this season, they are hitting the ball hard. He mentioned Salcedo, Hoehner and Raelee Adkins.
“They are lighting it up pretty good,” he said. “We also have some girls hitting well for average. Reese and Shelbie are doing a good job.”
Dale
Washington beat Class 4A No. 1 Dale 9-5 on Monday.
“We played really good defense against Dale,” Lampkin said. “To hold that team to five runs is saying something.”
Washington had just one error on the day.
Hoehner homered and Kelby Beller had two doubles.
The Warriors got on the Pirates early and applied pressure.
Briley Beller has handled pitching duties as of late and Lampkin is happy with the freshman.
“She’s done a great job of coming in and being able to get after that position,” he said. “We’re trying to limit some walks and go right after the batter.”
North Rock Creek
Washington next beat Class 5A No. 4 North Rock Creek 10-2.
Salcedo came up big again and hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning. She was 4-4 with four ribbies.
Schrader also homered and had three RBIs.
“I like where we’re going,” Lampkin said. “We have quite a few young players in the lineup too.”
The Warriors are 8-3 this season and ranked No. 5 in Class 5A.
