The Washington Warrior softball team turned a corner last week in their defensive output.

According to Washington head softball coach Tylor Lampkin, his team had an “exceptional” outing in the Roff tournament.

“We played really, really well,” Lampkin confirmed. “We didn’t hit it as well as we have been, but their were some quality arms there and we played great defense.”

The end result was a tournament win at Roff for the Tigertown Invitational.

Dale

Payton Blackburn pitched a no-hitter September 1 against Dale.

The sophomore threw seven scoreless innings, striking out two batters while allowing three walks.

Washington scored three runs in the first inning but was unable to cross the plate again until the sixth when they score four more.

Daphne Palumbo went 2-3 at the plate with a home run – a three-run shot in the first inning. She had three RBIs.

Jaylee Gray was 2-2 at  the dish with three runs batted in.

She also homered.

Caddo JV

The Warriors picked up a 10-2 win over Caddo’s JV team.

Ally Dennis got the start in the circle and struck out nine batters in the game.

The Warriors were held scoreless the first two innings but hung crooked letters on the scoreboard in each of the last three.

Gray was 2-3 with two double and three ribbies.

Ava Salcedo went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Bentli Brantley was 1-3 with two RBIs.

Stonewall

Washington beat Stonewall 4-2 in the next game.

Ellie Musgrove and Dennis teamed up for the win and struck out a combined five batters.

Kinzlee Pogue, Salcedo and Adkins all hit doubles.

Red Oak

Washington then beat Red Oak 3-1.

Blackburn got the start in the circle and struck out five batters, and played solid defense along the way.

It was a trend Lampkin saw develop during the tournament.

“We only had one error the entire tournament. They did some really good things defensively,” he said. “It’s a mind set for them. They realized they were lacking on defense and started to figure it out against Southmoore. It rolled over to the Dale game and then in the tournament.”

The Warriors scored their only runs in the third inning.

Brantley’s triple plated the first run and Adkins’ double scored the other two later in the inning.

Vanoss

Washington then beat Vanoss 10-3.

A seven-run sixth inning tipped the game in the Warriors’ favor after Vanoss had tied it up.

Brantley was 3-3 with a double and three ribbies.

Palumbo went 1-2 with two RBIs.

Salcedo and Jasey Baker both had triples.

Dennis struck out seven in the circle.

Washington, now 20-1, will head to the Bixby Festival this week.
