The Washington softball program was set to host their tournament last week.

But Mother Nature had other plans and head coach Tylor Lampkin was scrambling for plan B or C.

Nonetheless, they were able to get some games in and he liked what he saw.

They picked up wins over Class A No. 2 Turner (21-9),Class 5A No. 12 Perkins-Tryon (15-1), Class 6A No. 13 Yukon (9-6) and Class B No. 1 Stuart (26-22).

“We’ve had some quality wins over the past few weeks,” Lampkin said. “We’re starting to find our groove.”

Turner

Washington dug themselves a hole to start the game and found themselves down 9-2 as they began the third inning.

But a 16-run third for the Warriors changed the game outlook in a hurry.

“We got down in the game but had a big answer,” Lampkin said.

Julie Hoehner had a big day at the plate, going 4-4 with two home runs. She had five RBIs.

Ava Salcedo, Reese Schrader and Shelbie Caveness also homered.

Caveness also had two doubles, while going 4-4 with three RBIs.

Perkins-Tryon

The Warriors got right down to business against Perkins-Tryon, opening with a six-run first inning. They scored five in the second and four in the third.

Hoehner had a pair of homers and Salcedo had a solo shot as well.

Hoehner was 3-3 and had six RBIs.

Defensively, the Warriors played a clean game with no errors.

“We’re really hitting the ball well and playing pretty good defense for the most part,” Lampkin said.

Yukon

The Warriors clipped Yukon despite being out-hit in the final game of the day.

Salcedo went yard twice and 2-3 at the plate with four RBIs.

Ellie Wells, Schrader and Caveness had doubles.

Stuart

Washington edged out Stuart in a barn burner on Monday.

“I like the way we keep fighting and how we’re staying in ball games,” Lampkin said.

The game was back and forth with both teams taking their best shot at the other.

Salcedo homered twice again and was 3-4 with four ribbies. She also had two walks.

Hoehner and Briley Beller also homered.

Beller was 4-5 with six RBIs at the 10 hole. She also scored four runs.

“The bottom half of the lineup has done a really good job of turning it over to the top, Lampkin said. “When we’re getting them on base it really helps us to score with the power we have at the top of the lineup.”

The Warriors will play in the Turnpike Classic in Sulphur April 10-12.

“I feel pretty good about where we are right now and I just want to keep getting better and better going forward,” Lampkin said.

Washington is 12-3 this season.
