Both Washington basketball teams advanced to the Area tournament over the weekend.
The girls claimed the Regional championship after their 74-30 win over Bethel on Saturday night.
Preslee Johnson scored a game-high 18 points in the contest.
Breanna Lindert added 11 to join her in double figures.
The Warrior’s stifling defense held the Bethel offense to single digits in every quarter.
Meanwhile, Washington opened up a big lead with explosive second and third quarters at the offensive end of the floor.
Silo
Washington defeated Silo 58-28 in the opening round of Regionals.
Kelby Beller had a game-high 19 points.
Lindert was her solid, consistent self and scored 10 points of her own.
Washington’s defense kept the Rebels at bay as they only mustered three points in the first quarter and they scored a grand total of nine points in the first half.
Area
The Warriors will play Anadarko in the Area tournament.
Anadarko is 19-7 this season and ranked No. 5 in Class 3A.
They sport an imposing front court and try to out-muscle opposing teams.
Tip off is set for Friday at 6 p.m. in Ada.
Washington is 26-1 this season.
Boys
The Washington boys are in the consolation side of the Area tournament.
They defeated a scrappy Dickson team 66-53 in the opening round of Regionals.
The Warriors opened a 16-point lead early in the game but lost intensity once they had the lead, according to head coach Trevor Smith.
“We let them back in it after we got them down,” he said.
Dickson guard Landon Eubank was a big part of that with his 34 points in the game.
Washington put the foot on the gas in the fourth quarter to close out the game though.
“They had cut it to four and we went on a big run,” Smith said. “We ended it well.”
Jack McKimmey was the Warriors’ leading scorer with 20.
Cooper Collins had 11 and Teagen Foster had 10 points in the game.
Chandler
Washington was defeated by Chandler in the Regional finals, 62-41.
“They were one of the top two most athletic teams we’ve played this year, if not the most athletic,” Smith said.
The Warriors weren’t able to hold Chandler off the glass and committed too many turnovers, according to Smith.
“We turned them over 10 times late in the game and didn’t get any points off turnovers, which is really rare for us,” he said.
Kingston
The Warriors will face Kingston for the second time this season in the Area tournament. They won the first round 68-56.
Smith said the Redskins are very disciplined on offense.
“They will run through their offense again and again and again,” Smith said. They have long possessions and they’re good shooters.”
Tip off is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. in Ada.
Washington is 21-6 this season.
