A walk-off single by sophomore Jett Tyler pushed across the winning run in a four-run bottom of the seventh to secure the runner-up spot in regular season district title race.

The game went back and forth but the Dragons found themselves in a hole, down three runs heading into their half of the final frame.

Purcell responded with a four-run inning and edged Bethel 10-9.

Purcell will host the Luther Lions in the District Tournament this week. The two teams will square off in a double header today (Thursday) starting at 4 and 6:30 p.m. with the if necessary game ticketed for Friday at 4 p.m.

“Luther will be a good team coming in here,” Purcell Head Coach Cole Sharp said. “Even though their record doesn’t show it because they played a really tough schedule.

“We will have to be ready to play and get after it.”

In their victory in the second battle with Bethel, Nate Willis got the start on the mound.

Sharp went to his bull pen and Drew Kimbrell responded tossing two innings of no-hit ball.

“Drew came in and did a great job,” Sharp said. “This was an important game to win because it was about seeding in the playoffs.

“That was an exciting last half of the seventh,” Sharp said. “I was proud of our guys coming back and getting the win.”

Hayden Harp’s bat was on fire in the contest with him going 4-5, including a double, with a pair of RBIs.

Willis was 2-4 including a triple and had a RBI.

Freshman Parker Page also had a pair of RBIs including a sacrifice fly. Right fielder Logan Roberts went 3-3 at the plate and knocked in a base runner.

Purcell used a trio of hurlers to stop Anadarko on Senior Night, 10-3.

Brodrick Smith started the game on the bump. Tucker Bloodworth and Roberts both came in as the game wore on. Bloodworth got the victory.

“All our pitchers did a tremendous job coming in and pitching well,” Sharp said. “Tucker threw three scoreless innings and did not allow a hit.”

Creed Smith was the ring leader on offense going yard on the Warriors in the first inning with a runner aboard.

“Overall it was a successful night,” the coach said. “All of our seniors got to play and played well while they were in there.”

Last Monday’s gave with Pauls Valley was cancelled.

Purcell is 17-9 heading into the District Tournament.
