Kallie McMahan had to do some wheeling and dealing to get Lexington’s slow-pitch softball team a Senior Night opponent.
So, McMahan reached out to two schools left on the schedule — North Rock Creek and Anadarko — to see if they could make some changes.
Both programs agreed.
Lexington was Rock Creek’s Senior Night opponent on April 13, and Anadarko did the same for Lexington, agreeing to play at Lexington on Monday night, April 20.
“It was important that my girls got a Senior Night, so we did what we had to do,” McMahan told The Register.
North Rock Creek routed the Lady Bulldogs 15-0, but Lexington turned things around at home with a 6-3 win against Anadarko to snap a 12-game losing streak.
“It was incredibly important,” McMahan said of Senior Night. “It’s the last time you really get to showcase your seniors.”
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 3-1 in the top of the fourth but rallied with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
“Staying positive and true to who you are always pays off in the long run,” McMahan said. “We got off to a slow start against Anadarko but never let it shake us. We stayed in it and eventually put everything together.”
A two-run double by senior Lexie Torres made it 3-3. Torres scored on a bases-loaded walk to freshman Meagan Pruitt. Senior Marabelle Neilson scored the fifth run on a line out to left by freshman Gracie White.
Lexington added a run in the fifth inning on another base-loaded walk, this one to Nielson to score junior Peyton Harmon.
“Lexie sparked us with a clutch double ... and from there our bats came to life,” McMahan said. “We were patient at the plate, with mostly the entire lineup getting into three ball counts.”
Harmon and senior Hadley Wilkins each had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs. Senior Briley Lacquement was flawless in relief of Neilson, allowing just one hit and no runs in 3.1 innings of work.
“It was a total team effort,” McMahan said. “Everyone did their job and played their part to earn this win.”
Lexington was scheduled to play at Asher on Tuesday, then come districts at Elgin, with games against Elgin and Anadarko on Wednesday.
