Lexington vs. Washington in Supers Wednesday

Posted

The Lady ‘Dawgs were forced into the if-game of Regionals with Dickson last Friday when they won 5-3 to take the title.

Lexington moved on to Super Regionals against #1 Washington on Wednesday.

“This is a good matchup, they have tradition and name recognition. We just have to go play, compete and play our game. We’ll see what happens,” head coach Monty Ervin said.

Regionals

Lexington hosted Blackwell last Wednesday in their first game of Regional action. The Lady ‘Dawgs won 9-0 behind Brodie Anderson’s complete game shutout. She struck out 13 batters.

Lexington collected 10 hits, including two each from Lexie Torres, Anderson and Kora Parker.

Anderson and Mackenzie Manuel each had three RBIs.

Next up, Lexington faced the regional host, Dickson.

“It was a hostile environment. They had loud fans and even had the drums out there,” Ervin said.

“We wanted to take the wind out of their sails early and we did just that.”

The Lady Bulldogs won their second game of Regionals 5-0.

“Briley threw a great game. She had 11 strikeouts and only allowed two hits,” Ervin said.

Parker led the team with three hits in three at bats, including a solo home run in the second inning to get Lexington on the board first. She also had singles in the fourth and fifth innings.

Merabelle Nielson and Manuel had two hits apiece.

Lexington faced Dickson again. A win sent them on to Super Regionals, a loss forced the if-game.

The Lady Bulldogs lost 3-1.

“Dickson threw a girl that changed speeds on us and we got ourselves out at the plate a lot in that game,” Ervin said.

Nielson, Lacquement, Manuel and Charlie Ross had Lexington’s four hits.

Lacquement was in the circle. She struck out six batters but allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits.

On to the if-game where Ervin said his team was focused in to get the job done.

Lexington scored first when Manuel hit into a fielder’s choice and one run scored.

They added another run in the third when Manuel doubled to score one.

The Lady Bulldogs outhit Dickson in the if-game 10-4, led by Anderson’s three hits.

Lacquement was winning pitcher as she struck out seven batters and allowed three runs (zero earned) on four hits.

“I’m proud of our girls. They swung it well, threw it well and fielded well,” Ervin said.
