Coach Cody Tutwiler’s Dragons put two victories in their pockets last week knocking off Prague 7-5 September 4 and Tecumseh 5-3 last Friday.
With the game knotted at five apiece in the bottom of the fifth, freshman Kyndall Williams strolled to the plate with a pair of ducks on the pond.
Williams came through with a walk-off single that plated a pair of runners.
In that bottom half of the fifth, senior Mack McKay doubled in a run followed by fellow senior KK Vazquez tripled in a run. That set up Williams for the walk-off single.
Junior Ava Sparks, who picked up the victory in the circle, helped her own cause when she spanked a sacrifice fly that scored one run followed by an error that played another.
Sparks fanned four Red Devils giving up the five runs on five hits.
McKay led the offense going 2-3. Williams was 1-2 with the two RBIs.
In their 5-3 victory over Tecumseh, Purcell drew first blood pushing across a run in the bottom of the third on a Savage error.
Tecumseh knotted the score in their half of the fourth but the Dragons jumped out on top in their half of the seventh frame on a single by Vazquez and a fielder’s choice by Williams to provide the 5-3 victory.
McKay and Jaycee Holman were the big sticks for the Dragons with two hits apiece. McKay, Holman and freshman Raigen Marriot all had RBIs in the contest.
The Dragons came up short in a 9-1 loss to Tuttle September 2.
Sophomore Kendra Anderson took the loss in the circle.
Sparks had an RBI in a 1-3 performance at the plate. Anderson, freshman Ali Brady and Williams all had hits in the contest.
Dale pinned a 4-1 loss on the Dragons despite Purcell out-hitting the Pirates 8-5. Vazquez and Williams led the squad with two hits each.
Despite out-hitting the Perry Maroons 7-5 the Dragons came up on the short end of a 6-1 count.
Holman and Anderson led the hitting with a pair of hits each. Anderson, who led the team in hitting going 2-2 at the plate with an RBI, took the pitching loss in the circle.
The Dragons were scheduled to host four straight games starting Monday with Harrah. They are scheduled to host Cushing Tuesday, Lone Grove on Thursday and Dibble next Monday before traveling to Newcastle next Tuesday.
