Funeral services for Perry Lee Nemecek, 79, of Purcell will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mr. Nemecek passed away on March 1, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born December 4, 1944, in Oklahoma City, he was the only son of Mary Francis (Nemecek) Timmons. Perry started school in Oklahoma City, but after his mother’s sudden passing in 1952 from breast cancer, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Joe and Neva Nemecek of Wayne.
Perry began school in Wayne at the age of seven and graduated with the Bulldogs’ Class of 1962. While in high school, he was a standout athlete in basketball and football, showed cattle in the FFA Program, and was also a member of the band. After graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma for two years.
On August 1, 1964, he married his true love, Glenda Cherry Rose at the United Methodist Church in Wayne. They were childhood friends and high school sweethearts and together they raised three children, sons, Kelly and Kerry, and daughter, Kristi. After their wedding, Perry attended East Central University with Glenda, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1966.
Later that same year he started working as a teller at McClain Bank in Purcell. He eventually worked his way up to become McClain Bank’s Executive Vice-President/Head of Lending. A long-time member of the Purcell Lions Club, Perry also served on many local boards during his time at McClain Bank.
One of his great thrills came in 2003 when he was named the “Citizen of the Year” by the Purcell Chamber of Commerce. After 44 years of dedicated service, Perry retired from McClain Bank in March 2010. He continued to serve on the McClain Bank Board of Directors for the next 11 years which gave him a combined 55 years of service to Purcell and the surrounding communities.
Away from work he enjoyed boating and skiing at Lake Texoma and taking many family trips to Vail, Colorado, to play golf in the summers and go snow skiing in the winter. But his heart was always at his farm down by Rosedale where many years were spent checking on the property and tending to his cattle and horses. At one time he was an active member of the Purcell Roundup Club.
A gifted musician who played the piano and the trombone, Perry loved music of all kinds and listened to a wide variety of artists and bands from different genres. Perry was also a huge sports fan, who coached Pee-Wee Football for his sons’ teams and he was a great supporter of both Wayne and Purcell Athletics. He served in the Purcell Booster Club and was always happy to sponsor those less fortunate kids in support of their dreams in the classroom or on the athletic field. Perry traveled countless miles following first his children and then later his grandchildren in their various activities and sporting events. Perry loved the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Boston Celtics and he was a dedicated fan of the Texas Rangers. Over the years, Perry made numerous trips with his family to see these teams play in person.
Perry was a man of great faith and a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Purcell. He cherished Glenda, his children, his grandchildren, and he lived every day for them. Perry also had many dogs and cats throughout his life, as there was always one of his pets by his side. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Francis (Nemecek) Timmons and his parents, Joe and Neva Nemecek.
Perry is survived by his loving wife, Glenda of the home; sons, Kelly Nemecek and wife, Shandy, of Norman and Kerry Nemecek and wife, Amy, of Purcell; daughter, Kristi Lawson and husband, Greg, of Oklahoma City; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Ashton Grissom and husband, Tate, of Purcell, Ryder Nemecek, Rowan Nemecek and Landry Lawson.
