The Lexington Bulldogs were scheduled to be in Chandler last Thursday for the Regional tournament.
But, rain changed their plans.
Games were rescheduled for Saturday.
Lexington played Perry in their first game and lost, 21-6.
“We just didn’t play very well against Perry. And that loss got us down,” head coach Matt Dierking said.
The Bulldogs had three hits in the loss, two from Colby Haynes and one from Cody Rollins.
Rollins also had Lexington’s two RBIs.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the second inning when Rollins singled to score two runs and a passed ball scored another.
The Maroons scored seven runs in the second, third and fourth innings.
Lexington scored three more in the fourth, but couldn’t keep up with Perry’s offense.
Four Lexington pitchers saw the mound – Kash Klupenger, James McMillan, Haynes and Kaiden McRavin. Together they struck out five batters.
In their second game of the Regional tournament, Lexington lost to Chandler, 8-3.
The Bulldogs collected six hits in the loss, including two from McMillan. McRavin, Klupenger, Buddy Cormany and Corey Ramsey each had one.
The Bulldogs were playing catch up the whole game, as Chandler scored three runs in the second to get on the board first.
Lexington scored one in the bottom of the second.
The Lions added four more runs in the fourth while Lexington added two in the fifth.
McMillan, Klupenger and Ryan Johnson all saw time on the mound.
“We played ok against Chandler, but our pitching just wasn’t there. I thought we had a real chance to get out of Regionals, but it wasn’t our day.”
The Bulldogs graduate five seniors – Corey Ramsey, Gavrie Williams, Buddy Cormany, Kaiden McRavin and Ryan Johnson.
“Overall, the season was good. We were young in spots and it showed, but we’ll have a lot of young kids coming back who have played a lot of baseball.
“Our seniors will definitely be missed. They played the roles they needed to play and stepped up when we needed them.”
Dierking made mention of McRavin and his play at centerfield.
“Kaiden McRavin really stood out. Once he moved to center field he played great. I think he had one error in 34 games.
“I’m proud of him giving his all every game. He might be the best centerfielder Lexington has had in more than 10 years, and we’ve had some good ones.”
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 17-20 record.
