The Lexington Bulldogs kicked off their basketball season at OCA on Friday. They lost to the Eagles 69-33.

Freshman Cash Dierking led the team with 13 points while Colt Mixon added eight.

One senior returns, Mixon, who saw significant playing time from last season’s 11-15 team. A slew of seniors were lost to graduation including Drew Dierking, Zeke Faulkenberry, Ty Mixon, Skylar Rollins, Gage LaGace and Hunter Olson. They were knocked out of the postseason by Kellyville.

This year’s team will look a little different. There are several seniors, but not as much experience.

“We’ll be inexperienced but the guys play hard and they are learning a lot. We’ll do what we can do to get after teams,” Clark said.

Seniors Mixon, Elijah Pearman and Reagan Smith have seen playing time in seasons past, and they will be relied upon heavily this season.

“Colt is a senior leader for us. He’s a scorer. Elijah will be big inside for us. He’s athletic and can play good defense. And Reagan got some playing time last year,” Clark said.

The starting five will be Mixon, Pearman, Smith, fellow senior Gavrie Williams and freshman Cash Dierking.

“We have some young guys, and a couple freshmen, that will get experience and some that will come off the bench for us.”

As the season gets underway Clark and his team know it will take some time to get their feet under them.

“We’ll have to get better defensively. We have athletic kids, and I know we can give teams fits when we get in a groove.

“Our goal is to go out there and compete and get better everyday,” Clark said.

The Bulldogs hit the court again Tuesday, December 3 hosting Dickson.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up a win in their first game of the season. A 69-37 victory over the OCA Lady Eagles.

Led by Ava Rowe’s 25, Lexington jumped out from the first quarter and didn’t look back. They held a 49-17 halftime lead.

Scoring was harder to come by in the second half, but Lexington still pulled out the lopsided win.

Along with Rowe’s team-high, Addison Lippel finished with 15, Lexie Torres had 12 and Dulce Rodriguez had 11.

Lexington hosts Dickson on December 3.
