Jacobi Couch, in his third season leading the Lexington Lady Bulldogs, returns several girls from last year’s team.
Senior Addison Lippel is back along with juniors Lexie Torres and Hadley Wilkins. Returning sophomores include Marleigh Givens, Emma Stone and Chloe Becker.
Couch believes his starting five will include Lippel, Torres, move-in senior Ava Rowe and freshmen Emma Turnpaugh and Dulce Rodriguez.
“We have some inexperience, and I believe at times that will show, but they play hard and they buy in. As far as the basketball, I’m excited because they are coachable and they work hard,” Couch said.
Though their bench is not all that deep now, Couch believes that as the season moves forward, he will have several girls at the ready for a good rotation.
Couch is also excited about the leadership on his team, specifically from Lippel and Torres.
“Addison Lippel is one to watch in our conference. She’s a dynamic player. She can score, she can guard anyone’s best player and she plays hard.”
He also highlighted Torres as another leader on his team.
“Lexie is fast and athletic and we’ll leverage her ability to be successful this season,” Couch said.
Rowe, new to the team, is fitting in well, according to the coach. She gives the Lady Bulldogs another scoring option on the floor.
And freshman Rodriguez has been dubbed “the gnat” because she’s everywhere. Couch said she’s a great rebounder and plays very hard and will give Lexington a chance to be successful.
Couch is excited about the upcoming season and believes the schedule will take care of itself.
“We have to worry about us and take care of us. No matter who we’re up against, we have to take care of us,” Couch said.
“I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls. They work hard and they work together so well. I’m impressed and proud of them.”
The Lady ‘Dawgs kick off their season Friday night at OCA.
Last season, Lexington finished with a 12-14 record. Lost to graduation were Natalie Dicksion, Kiely Givens, Landri Bean, Abby Sample and Jordan Hardy.
