Mrs. Harrington passed away on March 16, 2024 surrounded by family.

Helen Louise Brakefield was born on July 18, 1930 in Wayne, Oklahoma, the second of six children born to James and Myrtle Brakefield. She was primarily raised in the Wayne community, and she attended Blantonview schools up until the eighth grade.

A short time later, she caught the eye of a handsome young man named, Virgil Corby Harrington. The two married young and together they shared countless memories, enough to last a lifetime. Virgil served in the military for nearly 21 years, and Helen was a proud military wife. She followed Virgil while he served on different tours all around the world and back, before they eventually settled back down in Wayne, Oklahoma. It was there that they made their home and finished raising their three beautiful children, Anita, Mike and Dana.

Helen was a caretaker at heart, and as such, she felt very blessed to be a homemaker for several years. Later, she worked in the cafeteria at Wayne Public Schools. Helen was a very gentle, loving, forgiving and patient woman. She was also very independent and outspoken. She would tell you her honest opinion, whether you wanted to hear it or not!

Helen had a fun sense of humor, an infectious laugh and she loved to cut-up with her friends and family. In her free time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and being in the comfort of her own home. More than anything, Helen was a family woman. She truly loved spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren. Helen chased them around to their various sporting events and other activities, and she was always their number one fan! She cherished every moment with them. Helen was a beloved mother, Granny, sister and a true friend to all. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Virgil Harrington; parents, James and Myrtle Brakefield; daughters, Anita Arnett and Dana Worley; son, Mike Harrington; infant twins and baby Harrington; granddaughter, Amber Hinkle and four siblings.

Helen is survived by her sister, Shirley O’Hagen of California; sister-in-law, Mona Brakefield of Dibble; seven grandchildren, Amy Harmoning of Wayne, Shandi Self of Wayne, Sara Blackwood and husband, Tommy, of Wayne, Jeremy Self of Durant, Tony Harrington and wife, Shaunna, of El Reno and Ryan Worley and wife, Breanna, of Blanchard; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
