Mother Nature was the big winner over Purcell softball last week with the entire schedule of games rained out.

The August 25 home game against Newcastle has been moved to September 10 and the game at Perkins has been rescheduled for September 18.

The Dragons put their second win of the season in their pocket edging Alva, 4-3 on a game-winning hit by K.K. Vazquez in the bottom of the second the previous week.

Vazquez drove in Ali Brady using the International Tie-Breaker in the bottom of the sixth inning. In addition to the game winner, Vazquez doubled earlier in the game.

Ava Sparks went the distance in the circle allowing only three runs while striking out six with a walk. She helped her own cause knocking in a pair of base runners with a sharp hit.

In a tough 4-2 district loss to Cushing, the Dragons couldn’t get the timely hit with runners in scoring position. Sparks had another solid pitching performance striking out six while giving up six hits.

Mack McKay led the offense with a pair of hits and an RBI.

Purcell began the Heart of Oklahoma Tournament with a 6-2 loss at the hands of Blanchard.

“We played well throughout the game, but ultimately had too many mistakes,” head coach Cody Tutwiler said.

Kendra Anderson gave up four earned runs on only five hits in the circle.

Vazquez led the offense with a double, a triple and drove in one of the two Purcell runs.

Defensive miscues and tough Cache pitching led to a three-inning run-rule loss, 12-0 in the second day of the HOOT.

Anderson, Sparks, Jaycee Holman and Kami Rendon each had hits for the Dragons.

Duncan pitching limited Purcell to one hit by Sparks, who started in the circle. Errors in the fifth and sixth innings were the difference in a 3-0 loss, the coach said.

The Dragons were scheduled to host Tuttle Tuesday and play in the Dale/Tecumseh Tournament Thursday through Saturday.

The Dragons have home games scheduled Monday with Harrah, Tuesday with Cushing and the makeup Newcastle game Wednesday.
