Purcell’s girls and boys both advanced to the Regional Tournament in the winner’s bracket posting District Championships over Davis Monday night at The Reimer Center.

Coach Roger Raper’s Dragons smothered the Wolves, 58-30 behind the game high scoring of sophomore Lincoln Eubank with 19 points.

The three point machine torched the nylons for four from downtown, scoring 17 of his 19 in the first half. He was the only Dragon to score in the third quarter.

Eubank was joined in double figures by Nate Willis with 17 and Mojo Browning with 10.

The Dragons came out on fire knocking down 21 points in both the first and second quarters to post a 42-10 halftime lead.

Purcell cooled off in the third period before coming back in the fourth to score 14.

“We came out with great energy to start the game and did what we needed to do to win,” Raper said.

“Its been such a strange year and our guys have had many obstacles to overcome. I’m very proud of them.

Coach David Sikes’ Dragons squeezed by the Lady Wolves, 33-32 with senior Emily Madden leading the way with 19 points.

Madden found the bottom of the bucket four times from beyond the arc in her final game at The Reimer Center.

“I’m proud of the way we fought,” Sikes said. “We struggled shooting but played tough on defense the entire 32 minutes.

“These seniors deserved to go out with a win on their last home game.

“With this team there is no quit. I love that about them,” he concluded.

Both the boys and girls will travel to Kingston tonight (Thursday) to play the winner of Kingston and Marietta in the sub-Regional.

The main Regional Tournament site is at Lindsay Friday and Saturday.

Dragon notes:

The District Championship for the boys is their 46th overall, according to historian Kelly Nemecek.

The girls record for the season is 13-7 while the boys are 13-6.
