An 8-5 loss to Union City last Tuesday moved the Wayne Lady Bulldogs’ record to 5-1.

Both teams finished the game with 14 hits. Lily Whitaker led her team at the plate with three hits. Taelyn Ringwald, Addison Keeler and Faith Brazell each had two hits in the loss.

Audra Watts, Alyssa Hobson, Ava Stottlemyre, Karson Adams and Brysten Shephard had one hit apiece.

Watts, Whitaker, Brazell, Hobson and Adams accounted for Wayne’s five RBIs.

Down 2-0 in the first inning, Watts doubled, Whitaker doubled, Brazell doubled and Hobson singled to score four and take the lead.

Union City tied it up with two runs in the third inning.

Wayne added a run to take the 5-4 lead in the sixth.

But, the Lady Tigers scored four in the top of the seventh to go up 8-5. Wayne couldn’t answer and picked up their first loss.

Ava Stottlemyre was in the circle. She allowed three earned runs on 11 hits and fanned four batters.

Adams came on in relief. She had one strikeout.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to be in Elmore City last Thursday for games with the Lady Badgers and Konawa. Severe weather in the area canceled those games.

Wayne will be at Dibble on Saturday and will play in the conference tournament starting Monday.
