Funeral services for Carolyn Earline Ward, 86, of Purcell will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 at Union Hill Baptist Church. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Ward passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024.

Carolyn was born in Shawnee, Okla., on September 23, 1937. She shared a birthdate with her Aunt Jewel, sister Claudine and niece Tammie.

In 1953, she caught the eye of a young man named, W.R. (Sonny) Ward. He worked for Carolyn’s dad’s broomcorn crew. Carolyn and Sonny quickly fell in love and were married on February 3,1956. Together they raised two sons, Scott and Grant.

Carolyn worked as a secretary for General Telephone Company for 32 years.  After retiring from the telephone company,  she fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning the Living Word Christian Bookstore in Norman and Shawnee for 25 years.

She was a long-time faithful member of Union Hill Baptist Church.  She lead the Growing In Faith Together (GIFT) most recently known as the elderly ladies Sunday School class for a number of years.

She loved her Sister Trips throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Georgia, Tennessee and even Colorado.  She loved lighthouses and enjoyed her trip to Boston.

She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Friend and Woman of Faith who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mabel Walker and her sister, Claudine.

She is survived by husband, Sonny of Purcell; her sisters, Jo Ann Huddleston of Purcell and Arlene Kennedy of Maysville; her son, Scott Ward and wife, Pam, of Oklahoma City and Grant Ward and wife, Lisa, of Byars; grandchildren, Amanda and husband, Brad, of Norman, Richard of Purcell, Michelle and husband, Brad, of Oklahoma City and Jeri and Ty of Las Vegas; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
