Lexington plays Pauls Valley in first game of I-35 Classic

The Lexington Bulldogs dropped a 10-0 game with Washington on Monday. They were scheduled to host Washington on Tuesday in the second of back-to-back games with the Warriors.

“We played well, not great on offense, but our defense kept us in it through five innings,” head coach Matt Dierking said.

Washington held just a 2-0 lead through the first five innings. They broke it open in the fifth when they pushed five runs across. They added three in the sixth for the run-rule.

“I’m proud of our defense. Cameron Haley was solid in left field. He caught everything that was hit to him.”

Lexington collected four hits in the loss. Zeke Faulkenberry, Colby Haynes, Logan Carroll and Ryan Johnson had one apiece.

Skylar Rollins went four and one-third innings. He allowed seven runs on seven hits.

Faulkenberry came on in relief. He allowed three runs on two hits.

Friday’s game with Lindsay and Saturday’s game with Meeker were both canceled due to weather.

With a 1-5 record as of Monday, Dierking says it’s been a tough start to the season.

“The first several games – Lone Grove, Asher and Washington – were all State tournament teams last year.

“It seems like there’s one inning that gets us. But our senior leadership is there to pick up the team and fight back. We’re a young team with a good fight in them,” Dierking said.

Starting Thursday, Lexington is in the I-35 Classic hosted by Wayne and Wynnewood. They play Pauls Valley at 6 p.m. in Wynnewood.
