Emma Turnpaugh doesn’t rank among Lexington’s leading scorers, and her name rarely appears on the team’s stat sheet.
But Turnpaugh is perhaps the Bulldogs’ toughest player and always willing to do the dirty work for coach Jacobi Couch.
“Emma never complains,” Couch told The Register.
Through 15 games, the 5-foot-6 sophomore has taken 13 charges from opposing ballhandlers, including one against Wynnewood in a 53-41 loss on Jan. 20.
A charging foul is called when an offensive player makes significant contact with a defender who has established position and results in a turnover.
Couch called it a “historic run” for Turnpaugh.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years of coaching,” he said. “Emma is just a hard-nosed player. She shows cattle, so she does that work as well, which I think helps her be so tough.
“Her biggest contribution is she always knows where she is supposed to be and what to do. She talks on defense to make sure everyone else knows as well.”
The Lexington girls also played in the Bobby Hicks Invitational at Little Axe High School, which was cut short by projected winter weather.
The Bulldogs overwhelmed Daniel Webster 73-4 on Thursday, Jan. 22.
Dulce Rodriguez scored 13 points, and Lexi Torres added 12 points, leading nine others who scored for the now 5-10 Bulldogs.
“The girls did a great job showing great sportsmanship and encouraging the other team,” Couch said.
Tournament play resumes at Little Axe with games Wednesday and Saturday. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play a conference game against Little Axe on Friday, Couch said.
Boys

James McMillan scored 20 of Lexington’s 38 points against Wynnewood. Reece Beason scored 14 points, and Beason added 13 against Harding Charter for the Bulldogs (2-13).
