Bulldogs go 2-2 in tourney

Picked up wins over Mill Creek and Wilson

The Wayne Bulldogs were scheduled to be in Wanette on Monday, however the Tigers forfeited.

Late last week, the Bulldogs were in Thackerville for the Diamond on the Red tournament. Wayne started the tournament with a 4-3 win over Mill Creek and a 6-1 win over Wilson. But, they dropped their final two games – a 9-3 loss to Wynnewood and a 10-2 loss to Wilson.

Mill Creek

The Bulldogs scored four runs on six hits in their win over the Bullfrogs. Jaxon Dill led his team with two hits in three plate appearances. Ben Fisher, Wyatt Webster, Ty Kemp and Casey Kane each had one hit in the win.

Braden McClendon was on the mound. He struck out four batters and gave up just one hit in five innings of work.

Wayne was down 1-0 after the first inning. They pushed three runs across in the fourth to take the lead.

Mill Creek added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie it up, 3-3. But, Wayne scored one in the fifth to retake the lead and hold on for the win.

Wilson

In their second game of the tournament, Wayne was out-hit by Wilson 6-4, but picked up the 6-1 win.

Sloan Jackson, Dill, McClendon and Cane each had one hit in the win.

Dill was on the mound for five innings. He gave up six hits, and struck out four. He allowed no earned runs.

Wynnewood

The Bulldogs had just two hits, both by Cane, in their loss to Wynnewood. Duke Moore and Cane accounted for their two RBIs.

Wynnewood jumped out 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Wayne answered in the bottom of the second inning with three runs. But that was all the offense for the Bulldogs.

The Savages added three runs in the third and four in the fourth to get the win.

Ty Kemp pitched for two and one-third inning. He struck out four, but gave up five runs on four hits. Moore came on in relief for two and two-thirds innings. He allowed four runs on two hits. Wayne had three errors in the loss.

Wilson

In their final game of the tournament, Wayne fell to Wilson 10-2.

Wilson jumped out 8-0 after the first inning. Wayne scored their  two runs in the third on a double from Dill. Wilson added two more runs in the fourth to seal their win.

Dill, Jackson, Kemp and McClendon were Wayne’s only hits in the game.

Kemp pitched three and two-thirds innings.

Wayne, 11-6 on the season,  was scheduled to host Springer on Tuesday.
