One of Oklahoma’s oldest high school basketball tournaments tips off here Thursday.
The 53rd annual Heart of Oklahoma tournament will tip off at 10 a.m. with Elgin and Byng’s girls at The Reimer Center.
In addition to the Dragons, also in the tournament field on the girls side are Bethany, Pathways, Enid, OKC Knights and Dickson.
Purcell and Dickson will square off at 7 p.m. tonight.
Bethany’s girls are ranked No. 8 in Class 4A. They won the Heart title last year, knocking off Anadarko 64-32 in the finals.
On the boys side of the bracket, Purcell will tangle with Elgin at 8:30 p.m. to open the tournament. Also in the tournament are Anadarko, Pathways, Dickson, OKC Knights, Yukon and Byng.
Anadarko’s boys are ranked No. 3 in Class 3A. They won the championship last year, defeating Elgin, 45-39.
The Heart is the second oldest basketball tournament in the state only behind the Bishop McGuinness tournament.
Both Matt Lohn and Toney Cooper report their teams are looking forward to the challenges of the tournament.
Complete brackets can be found in this week’s Purcell Register.
