Wayne out in Districts

Posted

The Lady Bulldogs dropped two games to Tushka last week to end their season. Game one was a close, 16-15 loss to the Lady Tigers and game two was a 29-17 loss.

They started District play with a 25-15 win over Vanoss.

“This was, top to bottom, one of the toughest districts. We beat a good Vanoss team and had some chances to beat the number nine team in Tushka,” head coach Charles Durrence said.

Bats were hot for Wayne with 34 hits and 24 RBIs in the win over Vanoss.

Five dingers put Wayne in the win column. Kaylee Madden had two while Kamryn Moss, Daliyah Fuentes and Shyleigh Mantooth each added one.

Haiden Parker, Haylee Durrence and Moss also had five hits each.

Mantooth was in the circle for Wayne. She fanned one batter and allowed 15 runs.

Next up, Wayne faced Tushka.

Again, Wayne had an offensive onslaught, but it was not enough to pull out the win.

Wayne held a 15-14 lead in the final inning. A Lady Tiger doubled to push two runs across the plate for the 16-15 win.

The Lady Bulldogs had 23 hits and 13 RBIs, including five homers by Fuentes (2), Moss (2) and Madden.

Every batter for Wayne had at least one hit.

The Lady Bulldogs turned around and played Tushka again. Though their bats continued to work, Wayne fell to Tushka 29-17 to end their season.

Amassing 23 hits and 14 RBIs, it wasn’t enough to hold off the Lady Tigers.

Moss, Durrence and Mayce Trejo each had homers in the loss.

Durrence and his Lady Bulldogs end the season with a 25-14 record.

“I’m really proud of this team. They played hard and bought in to what we were doing.

“They accomplished a lot of things that hadn’t been done at Wayne in a long time. As a team we hit the ball well and played well on defense.

Durrence and his team were especially proud to have 68 homeruns to their name this season.

The Lady Bulldogs are a young team with only two seniors lost to graduation, Kamryn Moss and Allie Walck.

Both girls have been heavy contributors for the Lady Bulldogs during their time at Wayne.

“We’re losing two good starters in Kamryn and Allie. I know we have some kids that can fill those spots next year and hope to achieve the same goals we had this year: a good regular season and making the State tournament,” Durrence said.

The coach said his team is taking a break but plan to reconvene this summer for Summer Pride.

“We’ll work out and get bigger, stronger, faster which can maybe push us over the edge for seasons to come.”

All-Conference Game

Four Lady Bulldogs were chosen for the All-Conference game held on Monday.

Kaylee Madden, Haylee Durrence, Allie Walck and Daliyah Fuentes each participated.

Head coach Durrence was also named the conference Coach of the Year.

“I couldn’t receive this honor if I didn’t have players who worked hard for me.”

Madden was named the Co-MVP of the game.
