Lexington falls to Tishomingo

11-5, 8-7 losses end Lady ‘Dawgs slow-pitch season

Lexington’s Lady ‘Dawgs finished their season last week at Districts in Davis. They picked up an 11-9 win over the Lady Wolves, but dropped two games to Tishomingo (11-5, 8-7).

They finished the season with a 12-21 record and will lose four seniors – Marisa Northrup, Cilee Turner, Abi Clifton and Kiely Givens.

Davis

The Lady Bulldogs collected 21 hits on their way to a 11-9 win over Davis last Thursday.

Lexington got on the board with one run in the first inning. But Davis answered and took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning.

There was another lead change in the top of the third when Lexington added two more runs to take a 3-2 lead.

Brodie Anderson homered in the fourth to score three of Lexington’s four runs in that inning.

Davis clawed back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lexington continued to hold a 7-5 lead.

The Lady ‘Dawgs added four insurance runs in the sixth and held off a late run from Davis to pull out the win.

Northrup led her team with four hits. Clifton, Anderson, Turner and Payton Veley each had three hits.

Anderson finished the game with four RBIs, including her three-run longball in the fourth inning. Marleigh Givens had two hits and two ribbies.

Tishomingo

The win over Davis set up a best of three with Tishomingo. The Lady Indians took both games, 11-5 and 8-7.

Lexington collected 10 hits in the first game, but committed six errors. 

Marleigh Givens had two home runs in the loss. She finished with three hits and two RBIs. Anderson also had a home run.

Turner was in the circle for both games. In the first game, she walked one batter and allowed 11 runs (six earned) on 17 hits.

Game two was a much tighter contest, going nine innings.

Lexington finished with 14 hits. Marleigh Givens was the leader at the plate with three hits. Anderson, Northrup, Kiely Givens and Jocelyn Senn each had two.

Anderson finished with two RBIs while Senn, Northrup and Marleigh Givens each had one.

After one inning, the score was knotted 1-1. Lexington got on board thanks to an error that scored a run.

The Lady Indians added a run in the second. But, Lexington retook the lead in the top of the sixth when Anderson hit a home run to score two.

Tishomingo answered and tied it up again with one run in the seventh.

The Lady ‘Dawgs went back to work and put up a four spot in the top of the eighth. Tishomingo answered with four of their own. The score was once again tied up, 7-7.

Lexington was unable to push a run across in the top of the ninth, but Tishomingo plated one to get the win.
