Graveside funeral services for Tobey Jay Atkinson, 64, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at the Washington Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of  the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.

Mr. Atkinson passed away June 12, 2024 in Oklahoma City.

He was born June 28, 1959 in Norman, Okla., to John Hollis Atkinson and Daisy Nell (Bearden) Stephens.

Tobey grew up in Criner, Oklahoma. He attended Lindsay Public Schools until the eighth grade before transferring to Washington Public Schools. He played football for the Warriors during the school year and spent his summers hauling hay. He graduated from Washington in 1977.

That same year, he married Kelly Roberson and together they had two children: Jarrod, in 1980 and Sarah, in 1983.Tobey was a hard worker throughout his entire life. He worked at Hart Agri-Sales before moving on to Barbour and Short Construction for several years alongside Norman Paving Crew.

In the mid-80s, he moved to California to install satellite dishes in motels. After a while, he returned to Oklahoma and started working in the oil field. He did oil field work all over the country and was last working in North Dakota before his retirement in 2020.

He will be remembered for his sharp wit and hardheaded nature. He could always make you laugh, especially when you weren’t supposed to. He loved spending time at the casino, working on the farm, and drinking his Mountain Dew.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Jay Bearden and Lester and Hazel Atkinson; parents, John Hollis Atkinson and Daisy Nell Stephens; uncle, Wayne Atkinson; and his sister, Holly Stokes.

He is survived by his son, Jarrod Atkinson and wife, Julie, of Norman, Okla.; daughter, Sarah Atkinson of Norman, Okla.; partner, Rashelle Allgood of Norman, Okla.; brother, Tolar Atkinson and wife, Trina, of Purcell, Okla.; granddaughter, Imogen Atkinson; and many more family and friends.
