Outdoor water use ban

Washington places restrictions on water until further notice

Posted

The town of Washington has implemented a ban on outdoor watering, effective immediately.

An email was sent out to residents at 12:38 p.m. Thursday, June 27, ordering them to refrain from “using water outdoors for any purpose, including lawns, gardens and car washing.”

Violators of the ban will face a $200 fine from the town.

Those wishing to turn in violators are asked to contact Susan at susan@washingtontownhall.com.

Anonymous reporters are asked to include the address of the resident in violation.

Washington residents had been under odd-even water rationing orders, but acting mayor Duane Branham said the excessive heat and water shortage make the current order insufficient.

The new ban is effective until further notice.

Washington head football coach Brad Beller said they are being forced to bring in frac tanks and haul water from area ponds to water the football field.

Washington’s water supply comes from wells and due to massive growth, they are unable to keep up.

The same issues are plaguing Newcastle, Blanchard and Goldsby.

Branham said in the past two years they have received some grants but the issue is painfully slow to develop.

“We’re doing the best we can to try and get this turned around,” he said.
