Funeral services for Maud LaNelle Williams, 86, of Oklahoma City will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Moore Central Church of Christ. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of  the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.

Mrs. Williams passed away on June 11, 2024.

LaNelle was born on January 1, 1938 in Wayne, Oklahoma, the oldest of four children born to Braden Wallace and Pauline (Muse) Wallace.

She was raised in Wayne, where she attended school and graduated with the Bulldog Class of 1956. Upon graduation, she attended Capital City Business School and was hired as a legal secretary for the law offices of McGuiness and Sullivan after earning her degree.

LaNelle married her long time grade and high school friend, Lon Dean Williams on August 22, 1958 at the Wayne Church of Christ.  The Williams made their home in Moore, Oklahoma, where they raised their two sons, Keith and Graylon, both of which earned Ph.D.’s and are accomplished in their fields.

LaNelle returned to work in increasing capacities after her children were in school as a bookkeeper for the Wayne Co-op Cotton Gin and worked for nearly 30 years.  Lon and LaNelle shared a love for the outdoors and spent much of their free time camping all over the US and Canada. They also nurtured a big vegetable garden together but LaNelle really loved her flowers. She could always entice the most difficult plants to bloom.

LaNelle also enjoyed singing, sewing, knitting, having coffee with her friends and baking, especially chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren when they came to visit.

LaNelle was a woman of great faith, and she exemplified the qualities of Jesus Christ everywhere she went. LaNelle and Lon were longtime members of the Moore Central Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school faithfully for nearly 40 years. LaNelle was a kind and thoughtful woman who loved staying in contact with all her family and friends. As a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a true friend to all who came into her life, LaNelle will be immensely missed.

LaNelle was preceded in death by her parents, Braden and Pauline Wallace.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lon Williams of the home; sons, Keith Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Graylon Williams and wife, Karyn, and grandchildren, Reid and Kalina of Tulsa; sister, Mary Jane McNamara and husband, Dennis, of Kerrville, Texas; brothers, Barry Wallace and wife, Roseann, of Magnolia, Arkansas, and Benny Wallace and wife, Linda, of Antlers, and a host of other family and friends.
