Lady ‘Dawgs still perfect

Posted

The Lexington girls are certainly thriving. It has made head coach Derek Clark’s wish for an unbeaten season look prophetic  going into the 2020 portion of the campaign.

“The girls are really buying into our philosophy and they are playing really hard,” Clark said. “Our team chemistry is as good as I have had anywhere I’ve been. I’m pleased to say the least!”

The Lady ‘Dawgs never trailed in their game against the Davis Lady Wolves last Tuesday night. They are taking a strong 50-25 victory into Christmas break and moving their record to a perfect 5-0.

Lauren Beason continued her stellar play by pouring in 18 points to lead Lexington. Emilee Jenks was next on the scoresheet with 12 points. Both Amanda Graddy and Jaci Idlett had six points.

It was 22-9 at halftime in favor of the Lady ‘Dawgs, who will play again on Jan. 7 at Marlow. Lexington’s girls are currently ranked No. 14 in Class 3A by the OSSAA.

Boys

Every year brings about hope and aspirations for better things to come. The Lexington boys’ basketball team is certainly hoping that’s going to be the case in 2020.

The ‘Dawgs dropped to 1-4 following another tough loss Tuesday night – this time to the Davis Wolves, 52-47.

Lex is still getting its bearings straight. They haven’t been blown out in any game thus far. Still, it’s a little disconcerting to Lexington head coach J.D. Beck.

“The kids are working hard and giving good effort,” Beck said, “but we need to learn how to finish games and play with a winning attitude. We can do that. We just need to finish strong.”

After the first quarter of play, the game was tied at 14. At halftime, Davis held the lead, 28-25.

Lexington kept it close in the third quarter, trailing the Wolves by only a bucket, 35-33.

But, the ‘Dawgs couldn’t quite keep Davis down long enough and lost a hard-fought contest.

Teagin Pruitt had 14 points to lead all Lexington scorers. Jaylen Cottrell scored 10 points while big man Colton Penner chipped in nine points from down low.

Lexington plays next on Jan. 7 at Marlow.
