Lady ‘Dawgs rolling along

The Lexington girls’ basketball team is off to a quick 3-0 record this season following an exciting 41-39 win over the Washington Warriors last Friday night on the road.

The victory for the Lady ‘Dawgs was a big one. They defeated the Class 3A No. 9 Lady Warriors on their home court. Washington has won three state championships in 2007, 2004, and 2003.

All of that for Washington has been accomplished under the tutelage of head coach Rocky Clarke, who ranks third all-time in victories for an Oklahoma girls basketball coach with 889 lifetime wins.

But, the Lady Warriors are off to a surprising 0-2 start this season. The Lady ‘Dawgs simply had more bite than Washington could endure last Friday evening.

Lexington trailed Washington, 19-18, at halftime. But, the ‘Dawgs never lost sight of the win as they were led by senior Emilee Jenks and her 15 points.

Anna Sample chipped in nine points in the winning effort while Amanda Graddy had six points.

Previously, Lexington beat Pauls Valley, 69-53, at Pauls Valley on Dec. 3. The Lady ‘Dawgs also had to come from behind in that game as the score was 23-22 in favor of the hosts at halftime.

Lexington poured it on the Panthers in the fourth quarter, outscoring Pauls Valley, 37-9. Graddy had 26 points in the win. Senior Lauren Beason dropped the ball in the bucket for 15 points while Jenks added another 12 points onto the ledger.

In the season-opener for Lexington on Nov. 22, the Lady ‘Dawgs whipped the Dickson Comets, 80-53.

Graddy began the season by scoring 27 points, including five three-pointers. Jenks had 17 points in the win while the Beason sister duo of Rylee and Lauren also added in to the mix.

Lexington (now ranked No. 15 in Class 3A by the OSSAA) hosted Lindsay on Tuesday night.
