The Lexington Lady ‘Dawgs were at Heritage Hall on Monday for a district game with the Chargers.

Lexington dropped that game with a 4-2 decision, despite getting on the board in the first inning and leading 2-0 through four and a half innings.

“We didn’t field it, swing it or pitch it that well. It is what it is. We have a lot of young girls with little to no experience and we’re going to have growing pains,” head coach Monty Ervin said.

“We have to learn to play through adversity because right now, we’re facing adversity.”

Kiely Givens tripled and Kora Parker singled in the first inning. Both girls scored a run and that gave Lexington the 2-0 lead.

However, Heritage Hall’s bats heated up in the fifth inning to put them on the board and take the lead for the 4-2 win.

Lex had three hits in the loss; Parker had two and Givens had one. Both girls also had one RBI a piece.

Hannah Garrett was in the circle for Lexington. She struck out five batters and gave up seven hits. She walked two.

“Hannah was efficient, but you can’t walk the eight and nine batters to put runners in scoring position for the top of the lineup.

“Hannah’s guts and determination have surprised me over the last year,” Ervin said.

Garrett was efficient for Lexington, throwing more than 57-percent strikes.

Lexington was hosting Jones on Tuedsay and they are scheduled to be in Sulphur starting Thursday for the Murray County Bash.

Lexington faces Sulphur at 4:30 p.m. and Davis at 7:30 p.m.

Their third pool play game is Friday against undefeated Latta at 4:30 p.m.

Matchplay, according to pools, will be on Saturday.

“We are an unknown team right now. We have inexperience and our seniors haven’t ever been asked to step up like we need them.

“But with youth, you just never know. We’re all still learning,” Ervin said.
