After knocking off Lexington on the road early last week, Purcell came home to host the Bulldogs Tuesday and behind the power of freshman slugger Bryce Blair pinned a 10-0 shutout victory on the visitors.

Blair spanked a three-run home run in the game going 2-3, chalked up the three RBIs and scored a run.

Sophomore Boston Knowles was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, including two doubles, with one RBI.

Freshman Deaken Dobbins went 2-3 with an RBI. Junior Carter Goldston had a hit in the victory.

Senior Zach Idlett went the distance on the mound limiting Lexington to two hits.

“Zach pitched well,” head coach Cole Sharp said.  “He attacked the zone all day. Bryce Blair, Boston Knowles and Deaken Dobbins hit it well that day.

“Overall, that was our best game we put together this season from pitching, defense and hitting,” the coach said.

The Dragons backed that victory up with a pair of wins over Little Axe last Friday.

Behind the one-hit pitching of Knowles, the Dragons shut out the Indians, 10-0 in game one and posted an 11-1 run-rule victory with Dobbins chunking a two-hitter in the night cap.

Junior Jett Tyler, Blair and Knowles all had two hits in the game. Knowles’ hits were a double and a triple. Cole Smedley and Adrian Dominguez also both had doubles.

Making his first start of the season, Knowles fanned 11 batters and issued only one walk.

“I thought Boston competed on the mound all day,” Sharp said. “He really worked ahead in the count and made the Little Axe hitters swing the bat.

“It was a group effort hitting-wise with eight of our nine guys getting a hit.

“Our kids are building off of this and getting better.  We still need to clean up some things but overall I’m proud of them.”

Purcell jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first and never took their foot off the gas.

Blair, Parker Page and Logan Roberts all smacked doubles.

Sharp also got hits from Idlett, Knowles, Smedley and Tyler.

Dobbins struck out eight in just four innings of work.

“Deaken is growing up on the mound,” Sharp said.

“Overall it was a good day and we took care of business against Little Axe,” Sharp said.

Monday the Dragons traveled to Heritage Hall and came up on the short end of a 13-6 verdict. Eight Purcell errors contributed to the loss.

“You can’t expect to win games committing that many errors and win especially against a good team like Heritage Hall,” the coach said.

“We have to do a better job in limiting our mistakes. That game should have been a 3-2 game but it ended up getting away from us because of too many mistakes.”

Page went 2-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Blair, who went 2-4, and Goldston also doubled in the contest.

Purcell was scheduled to host Heritage Hall Tuesday and play in the Newcastle Tournament this weekend.

The Dragons are scheduled to host Holdenville Monday and travel there on Tuesday.
