Colleen Loreta Stanton, 84, passed from this life to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 17, 2023 with her family by her side.

Colleen was born March 22, 1939 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to Ernest and Mabel Gilley. She was the youngest of six brothers and sisters. She was an avid basketball player, and was a four-year starter on the varsity basketball team at Lexington High School. She was also an honor roll student.

Colleen married in 1961. On November 19, 1965, she was blessed with one child: Edward Guy Stanton II. Colleen devoted her life to raising Ed as a single parent, and was a loving and selfless mother to him.

She attended 21st Street Church of Christ, and was a good and faithful servant in her Christian walk. She enjoyed being in the kitchen, entertaining, organizing wedding receptions and reading.

Colleen spent her career working for the Department of Human Services for the State of Oklahoma where she would have many roles throughout her career. Some of those roles were stenographer, executive secretary, administrative assistant to hospital administrator and medical services assistant. She served the state of Oklahoma for over 30 years before she retired in 1988.

After retirement, she graduated from Central State University with her son, Ed. She enjoyed her years in retirement spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her best friend, Foy Hawkins. She also served as a cook for Meals on Wheels in Oklahoma City.

Colleen is survived by her son, Ed Stanton and wife, Leann, of Blanchard, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Blake Stanton and wife, Kristen, of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Abby LaRue and husband, Landon, of Blanchard, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren, Luke, Jack, Kate, Harper, Lennyn and Merrit; brother, Harold Gilley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mabel Gilley; two sisters, Wanda Rutherford and Mildred Whitehead, and two brothers, Ron and Don Gilley.

Funeral Services celebrating Colleen’s life were held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Eisenhour Funeral Home in Blanchard, Oklahoma at 10 A.M. Burial followed at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Oklahoma. Services were under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
