Purcell

Last Saturday’s inch of rain and lighting all day long forced the annual Purcell Red-White scrimmage to be held Monday night at Conger Field.

“Overall I thought it went well,” head coach Aaron Dillard said. “We came out healthy and that’s always a big goal in any scrimmage.

“The defense played really well,” Dillard continued. “They were physical and made it tough on our offense all night long.”

Dillard noted the play of several of his defenders including Deaken Dobbins, Kash Guthmueller at free safety and starting linebackers Christian Kirk and Ryker Fink.

“They were fitting the run responsively and holding up at the point of attack,” the coach said. “Jonathan Minor had a phenomenal night at defense end. He made plays all over the field.”

Purcell will travel to Minco Friday night. Also scheduled to be there for the round robin type format will be Wynnewood and Lexington.

The scrimmage starts at 6:30 p.m.

Washington

Weather cut the Washington Red-White varsity scrimmage with Little League and junior high all moving into the Indoor Facility last Saturday.

“But we had a great week of practice,” head coach Brad Beller said. “And, we actually had our varsity scrimmage on Friday night not about the weather but knowing we had Little League and junior high scrimmages on Saturday.”

Beller said his team is “really deep and relatively healthy”.

“They look like a team ready to start a new year and there is no hang over (from last year’s title run),” he said.

The Warriors will travel to Carl Albert on Thursday night for a scrimmage.

The JV and freshman will start at 4 p.m. with the high school starting at 5:15 p.m. The varsity will start a “live half” against Tuttle starting around 6:20 the coach said.

Other teams that will be at Carl Albert include Lawton Mac, Yukon, Southmoore, Heritage Hall and the host Titans.

Lexington

With only one pre-season scrimmage on the schedule since they open Week 0 with Bridge Creek, Lexington coaches are anxious to see how their team stacks up in live competition.

The Bulldogs will head to Minco Friday night for a 6:30 p.m. scrimmage.

Also ticketed to be at Minco are Wynnewood and Purcell.

Head coach Keith Bolles reports practice has been good for the first week.

“Obviously we want to see how we do when we go against people we don’t know. We’ve just been hitting each other.

“We’re looking forward to the scrimmage,” he continued. “It’s our one and only.”

Bolles zeroed in on a trio of players who have stood out in the early season drills.

“Issac Martin, Cash Lippel and Trace Bradsher have had a really, really, really good week,” Bolles said.

Wayne

The Bulldogs will host Empire in a scrimmage at 6 p.m. Friday at D.S. Zack Powell Stadium for their first action against another team.

“We’re anxious to get out there and go against another team and gauge ourselves,” Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp said.

He said fall camp has been going well.

“All the guys are going hard and trying to get better every day,” he said. “We’re moving some guys around to new positions and they’re having good attitudes.

“We’re getting our young guys reps and they’re learning the system.”

Bulldog fans are asked to bring soap or a towel Friday night to the scrimmage for donation to the program.
