Wet weather causing woes

District 2 County Commissioner Wilson Lyles has a life-saving request for folks driving around McClain County.

He didn’t say this but the old adage of “Turn Around Don’t Drown” applies to some areas.

What the veteran county commissioner did say was obey  traffic signs.

If the signs say road closed they mean it.

There are roads in our county that are impassable.

The torrential rains from last week have done a number on a bevy of roads

Please, please do not attempt to go around road closed signs.

It’s no surprise there is damage and roads are closed since last week Purcell recorded 6.2”, Pauls Valley 5.90”, Washington 5.77”, Norman 5.19” and Byars 4.75”.

The wet ways continued Tuesday with Purcell recording 2.7”, Byars 2.26”,Washington 1.94”, Norman 1.61” and Pauls Valley adding another 1.52” to their total.

That brings the totals for the week so far to 8.72” in Purcell, 7.71” in Washington, 7.42” for Pauls Valley, 7.01” in Byars and 6.8” in Norman.

So far in 2025, Purcell has recorded 24.19”.

Oklahoma City has recorded 15.64” this year with the normal for the year-to-date at 9.38”.
