Suspect vehicle crashed into Executive Inn in Purcell

Two people were arrested after a high speed chase that started in Cleveland County early Saturday morning and ended up with a vehicle crashing into the Executive Inn in Purcell at 1904 S. Green Avenue.

Purcell Police were notified of the pursuit that was heading west on SH 39 toward the James C. Nance Memorial Bridge at 5:05 a.m.

As the pursuit continued south on Green Avenue, Officer Josh McCoy was cleared by Lt. Heather Kaluzny to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver to bring the suspect vehicle to a halt due to an increasing amount of traffic at that hour.

Officer McCoy had to wait on at least two other vehicles that were headed north on Green Avenue before he had an opening to perform the TVI.

McCoy noted in his official report, he made contact with the suspect vehicle just about even with the tall Rubys Inn sign when the vehicle began spinning.

As he passed the white van to slow down and turn around he noticed the vehicle had stopped spinning and slid to the southeast, going over a curb and striking the metal awning of the Executive Inn before barreling into the west side of the building.

At that time, the Cleveland County unit was pulling up and McCoy reported a black male, wearing a blue hoodie, running from the van.

McCoy exited his police unit and chased the suspect, later identified as Aler Maluw Deng, 24, down, placing him in handcuffs with assistance by Deputy Muldrow.

The suspect was transported to the Cleveland County Detention Center while the driver of the van required medical attention.

James Deng Mangong was still in the vehicle when McCoy went back to the vehicle to check on him.

Mangong, 20, was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City by Wadley’s EMS where he was later released and jailed.

While Officer McCoy was taking photographs of the scene, he was informed a large quantity of marijuana was in the back end of the van.

The pursuit began at 180th and Box Road in Cleveland County where an alarm was sounding at a marijuana grow facility.

When Cleveland County Deputies arrived, three vehicles all took off in different directions with the 2019 white Dodge Ram Sprinter van ending up in Purcell.
