The Purcell Public Library will present the “Hispanic Heritage Festival” Thursday, September 19, from 5-7 p.m. in the meeting room of the library.

Discover the diverse cultures, traditions and experiences that make up our Hispanic community. Join us for food, fun and even some furry friends!

Deepen your connection with your community and expand your mindset on Hispanic culture. Learn with others in this interactive program with different Hispanic performers, entertainment, food trucks and more!

The wedding of Josiah Gibson and Alison G. Wells was held Saturday, September 7, in Purcell.

A number of family members and friends of both the bride and groom traveled to Purcell for the nuptials.

Friends and relatives of the bride attending included Gary Goodfriend and Debbie Crisp of Austin, Texas, Brenda and Whitney Sanders of Sand Springs, Okla., and Adam Wells and Kimberly Vo of Oklahoma City.

Flower girls were Blakeley (Bb) Bell and Clara J. Gibson.

Those attending enjoyed the outdoor ceremony and the festive reception held afterwards.

The Sanders’, Goodfriend, Crisp, Adam Wells and Ms. Vo visited at the home of Jeff and Suzanne Wells, parents of the bride, prior to returning home on Sunday.

Also visiting with the Wells’ guests were Honey and Zoe Wells and Dixie Bell.

The Purcell Public Library will present the “DIY Potted Plants” Thursday, September 26, from 4-6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the library.

Join us as we come together to learn about the science behind taking care of plants while potting and decorating plants for attendees to take home!

You will have the opportunity to get to know people who share a similar interest and learn more about plants. Plants, potting materials, and pot decorations will be provided for this experience.

Registration is required and the program is for all ages.

Here’s another good recipe to have ready when you get home from  work or a sports outing.

Slow Cooker Cowboy Chicken

4-6 chicken breasts

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoons Dijon Mustard

2 cups salsa (any type)

15 oz. can corn, drained

15 oz. can black beans, drained and rinsed

1/2 cup sour cream (plus extra for serving)

Brown rice (for serving)

Place chicken in a 5-6 quart greased slow cooker.

In medium bowl mix brown sugar, mustard, and salsa.

Pour mixture over chicken. Add water to cover chicken, if needed. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4 hours.

With 30 minutes of cook time remaining remove the lid and shred the chicken using two forks.

Add the beans, corn, and sour cream to the slow cooker and mix together with the chicken. Replace lid and cook for remaining 30 minutes.

Serve over rice with sour cream.
